Info for Global Finals
Congratulations to your team! You will now be representing Virginia as Team DIVA at Global Finals – where there will be over 1300 teams from around the world!
Below is important information to get you started. Please note that I will be sending out periodic emails with additional information. You need to be sure that you read the entire email.
In the bag you received at Globals, you should have one light up wand per team member, one free pin set per team member, and the Global Finals Brochure for Team Managers. The Complete Global Finals Guide is also online at www.globalfinals.org. Check this site often for updated information about Globals.
You will receive an email from DI to register your teams. We are in the process of certifying the Virginia teams. You should receive this email tomorrow, Monday, March 30.
First and foremost – if you CANNOT attend Globals – we need to know ASAP! If you do not attend, we will be able to invite another team. We need to know no later than Wednesday, April 1. You will also need to let DI know when you log on to the DI Globals site in the email you receive.
Gmail is sending their emails to the spam filter, and they are working with them to get this resolved. If you have not received the certification email, please confirm with me that I entered the correct email address, and then please check your spam folder. If an email address needs to be changed, please send the request to email@example.com
Opening and Closing Ceremonies
If you have never been to Global Finals before, the Opening Ceremony is quite amazing! There is a parade of team representatives from each affiliate (including each country at Globals), a cool video of teams arriving at Globals, and an awesome light show! The Opening Ceremony starts at 7:30 pm at Thompson Boling Arena on Wednesday night.
Closing Ceremony is also at Thompson Boling Arena on Saturday night. You will see more videos of the week – and then the awards!!
What to bring to Opening and Closing Ceremonies
Wear your DIVA shirts. Each affiliate has their own shirt and it looks so cool when you see a sea of green shirts sitting together in the stands!
You received a light-up wand in the bag you picked up at the Awards Ceremony. Please do not give these to your team until you get to Globals. You don’t want them to lose those sticks. Teams like to have light-up items at Opening and Closing because of the video, light shows, etc they do when the lights are turned down.
Pin trading is something fun that people like to do at Globals. If you walked through our Silent Auction – those t-shirts and pins are from those of us that trade with others to get these from other affiliates. Kids love to try to get pins from other countries and look for themes they like.
Not everyone trades pins, but you will see crowds of people trading in specified locations. It is quite an event and lots of fun!
T-shirts and Pins: Order online athttp://divirginia.org/shop
We will open up our shop by Monday, March 30.
Each team member and up to two team managers will receive a FREE t-shirt (excluding shipping). If you want to order additional shirts, the cost is $10.00 per shirt. Our t-shirts will have “State Champs” on the back. You may choose to have your shirts shipped from Blue Ridge Graphics (BRG) in Charlottesville or you may choose to pick up your shirts from BRG.
Each team may order up to 20 sets of pins (6 pins in a set). This is to allow all teams a chance to order. Once the orders are in, I will let teams know if they can order additional pins. Pin sets are $11.00/set. You will notice that the prices for t-shirts and pins are reduced for teams advancing to Globals, to help out with your costs of attending. Pins will be shipped to each team from Laurie (in Warrenton) via flat rate shipping plus tracking.
Please download and print the T-shirt and Pin Order Worksheet regarding shipping costs for t-shirts and pins. We will accept credit cards only.
It is very important to think about fundraising to help your team attend Global Finals if you are not getting support from a school system or elsewhere Ideas: car washes, talking to businesses, asking Tropical Smoothie or Chick-Fil-A, for example, to donate some of their proceeds to your team on a certain day. There is a website,http://www.planetgreenrecycle.com that is also a useful way to help with fundraising – check it out. The Global Finals website also has some great fundraising ideas.
