Important Tournament Information

Congratulations to all teams advancing to the DIVA Affiliate Tournament!! Below are some reminders as your team prepares:

Our last regional tournament was on March 22, so we are now working very hard to finalize the schedule. We hope to have this complete by Wed, March 26. Thank you for your patience!

Please download the following:

  • Team Info Sheet
    • Please give this to your parents/supporters so they know what challenge the team is doing and where they will be
  • TM Tips – this is VERY important and includes information from our Tournament Director
  • TM Checklist – VERY IMPORTANT – MUST READ – AGAIN!!!
  • As soon as our Map of the school is completed, we will be posting that right here

Below is a schedule of the day:

7:30 am – 10:00 am          Team Registration, Front Lobby

7:45 am                                Opening Parade line up, Gym hallway

8:00 am                               Opening Parade, Main Gym

8:10 am – 4:00 pm            Team Performances

9:00 am – 5:00                  Souvenir Sales, Lecture Room

10:00 am – 4:00 pm         Special Activities (see map of school)

10:00 am – 4:00 pm         Silent Auction, Lecture Room

4:30 – 5:10 pm                   Sock Hop, Main Gym

Awards Ceremony will start as close to 5:15 as possible, Main Gym

The Adult Helper Schedule will be emailed to the volunteers who have registered. I will let you know when that will go out. Please check with them to make sure they received this. The email addresses are the ones you input when you registered.

The appraisers should have been contacted as well. If your appraiser has NOT been contacted, please let me know ASAP. We need EVERY appraiser who registered with us. Please let them know we DO need them and to contact me if they have not heard from their Challenge Master.  The email addresses are the ones input by the appraisers via the online form

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE:

READ THE CHALLENGE AGAIN!! AND AGAIN!!  I can’t tell you how many times I have missed something as a TM! Make sure the team reads it, you read it to them, etc..

READ THE RULES OF THE ROAD – AGAIN… AND AGAIN… AND AGAIN!!!!! Even if you have been a TM for YEARS – read them again! There are always changes – and make sure you know what they are.

READ AND HAVE A COPY OF THE GENERAL CLARIFICATIONS!!  Read them AGAIN… and AGAIN!!! Make sure your team knows what these are!

If you have TEAM CLARIFICATIONS – bring a copy of these with you to hand it with your paperwork

Completed Paperwork needed for the tournament: (We will NOT have a copy machine available for teams to use)

  • Expense form – this may be different than the one you used at your regional tournament if your team made changes and used additional or different materials
    • Keep the original and make copies of your receipts – but KEEP THE ORIGINALS
    • Tournament Data Form – FIVE COPIES
      • Keep an original for yourself so you don’t have to make more copies if you advance to Globals
      • Declaration of Independence – TWO COPIES
        • These need to be new ones with the new date
        • Photo Release forms – SIGNED – turned in at Registration (these were sent in a previous email – let me know if you need them again)

Make sure you bring your MEMBERSHIP SIGN

Please double-check the schedule and make sure all your parents and supporters know what time your team’s presentation will be – and where.

The following challenges will be on the 2nd floor:

  • Going to Extremes – ALL LEVELS
  • Instant Challenge
    • Only the TEAM and ONE TM are allowed to go upstairs to Instant Challenge. Supporters must wait downstairs

When the appraisers are asking your team questions once they are done with their presentation, we ask that the TM sit patiently and let the appraisers talk to the team ONLY. Your team really needs to brag about all the cool and awesome things they did and the appraisers LOVE hearing about it! Let your team do their thing!! J

Make sure your appraiser and volunteer come to the tournament!! We NEED THEM!!

Destination Imagination Inc. makes the rules regarding how many teams advance from the affiliate tournament to Globals. We will be advancing:

  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd  place teams from ALL LEVELS (except for Service Learning), regardless of number of teams in that challenge/level
  • Service Learning challenge: 1st – 5th places advance!!
  • We also have TWO Wild Cards this year!!! So stay for the entire Awards Ceremony to find out if your team will advance!!

Make sure you have checked the Global Finals website: www.globalfinals.org regarding Global Finals dates, housing, and COST!!  Please note that Global Finals will start on Wednesday this year – that is, the challenges will start on WEDNESDAY, not Thursday.
